I put this on the Yahoo group but a lot of people said they could not see it so I will post the renderings from my architect here

I am putting my two houses together and building up another floor so it will be two full stories and a rooftop terrace using that as kind of a 3rd floor. I will also have a small area on top of the 3rd floor (sort of "crows nest" or observation area) that should give me a nice view of the ocean.

We will see how it goes.

I should have jumped on this sight unseen in Feb. 08. I just came back from a stay at Xpu-ha today and took a ride down to look at the sub division. I was told they were sold out except for a couple completed , furnished units. A bit more than I was hoping to spend. Is there anyone selling a unit that is not so complete? What's in store for Xcacel playa. Are the turtles going to prevail or the developers. jcl

Ok...on the yahoo board there was some discussion about cement furniture. One of the things we've always thought was cool at the properties where we've stayed was the cement furniture. Where does one get cushions for the cement couches?? Or would I have to sew/make them myself?

I notice that a lot of folks are getting new windows....is this something that most of the homes need? Also, is there a time frame set in stone as to how quickly we have to do things such as paint the exterior etc.? OR is this upgrades that many of you have chosen but are not necessary?

It was a lot of fun, interesting and educational--well worth the trip

Check out www.thejungleplace.com and make your reservations with Heidi or Joel. Super nice people they have lived in Chemuyil for 8 years now.

Its $20usd per head but you actually get to spend quite a bit of time with the monkeys and they said that it is very expensive to care for them with food, maintenance, their huge cages/play areas, etc. I think it is worth ...

Hello from Canada!

What an exciting discovery this is for simply stumbling on this site! I have been researching real estate in the area for some time and was getting discouraged by the inflated prices. I could kick myself royally for seeing opportunities when I was in Playa for the 1st time in '91 and then not taking advantage of this gut feeling that Playa was going to be much, much more than a fishing village.

However, Chan Chemuyil sounds like a 2nd chance. I'll be retiring in 6 years, ...

Anyone interested in renting their home ?

This is it! I've been offered the house. My financial person and some family think I'm nuts, but I'm 99% sure that I will buy based only on what I've read, researched and seen online, especially in this forum. I've been in that area as recently as April (Tulum) and loved Akumal last July.

Is there anything anyone might share with me regarding making this decision and wiring the funds ASAP?

Building Costs

He guys! I've just received a quote on building costs in our area from an expat. builder. He says it's between $70 and $85 US /sq.ft.for interior living space (depending on finish products) and around $40 US / sq ft for outdoor space (patios, carports etc.). Walls for fence lines run about 7 dls a sq. foot.

Anyone find this high for the area or on point?

I'm thinking of going up one level.

There is some information out there about this technique that we've read like Yucatanliving.com and some other sites. There is a faux technique but we are more interested in the simple and traditional limewash finish. I would love to know if anyone else, our contractors included, have used this application. Mark was playing around testing this with cinder blocks and hydrated lime. He bought a 40 lb. bag for $4. ...

Cheers to everyone from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Does anyone have suggestions for window suppliers? My husband and I will be down May 30th to June 10th to set up our new pad. I now its mexico, but I wondered if anyone knew a company that might build sealed windows in a week once we got there and were able to take exact measurement of opening sizes. Also, security bars for the windows......any supplier suggestions?

Mary and I just returned from Chemuyil.

This was our 3rd trip since we purchased in mid-December, the 2nd time we have stayed in the house.

Things are changing daily, everything looks great!

I spent an afternoon by myself with a Robert Parker novel (Jesse Stone) at the bench by the North cenote, with a large drink.

After a few minutes, you won't believe the birds and wildlife that come out to sunbath, bathe, etc.

Bring a beach towel to sit on, and a cooler, you will not be ...
